What do you look for in a review?
Whether you’re writing or reading one, there are certain things you always look for. What are those? What do you think are the most important elements you think the reviewer should include? What would you like see more? Less? What is the role of a review? How important is it?
When writing or reading a review I enjoy seeing the following...
I want to see is if the book was enjoyable in the first sentence or two.
I enjoy seeing a rating for
the book!
I don't want any spoilers but a base
line of what it is about so I can determine if it is something I think would
interest me.
I like having a basic knowledge of the book without knowing what happens in the end. I want to find that out for myself.
Was it funny,suspenseful,sexy... Does the book leave you
begging for more or are you satisfied in the end? I really want to know if the book has a major cliffhanger or not. I don't really like cliffhangers and if a book has one I may wait till the next book comes out before reading it.

I enjoy seeing favorite quotes from the book! Those are always fun.
I always want to see the following...
I want to see a picture of the book.
I want to see the release date, publisher, and format.
Now hop on to the next blog to see what they look for in a review!
I agree with most of the things you mentioned in your post, but I would add, that I don't want a one paragraph review that basically restates the blurb you would find on the back of a book. I want to to why you liked it or didn't like it and what it was that drew you to the book in the first place...
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
I love to know why a person likes a book or why not - everyone is different but I love to know the ins and outs of a person's opinion. :)

I really appreciate it when reviewers tell me about any typos or formatting issues. I think that a good review needs to have a book cover at a short blurb.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy author interviews a lot, especially if they are funny or candid. I am following you, thanks!
I like seeing if the book was enjoyable right up front too. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting - I always forget to put publisher and release date. Certainly something I'll think about from now on!
ReplyDeleteAmy, you are a reader who knows what she wants! Yes, publisher and release date would be good to add. Nice post.
ReplyDeleteI didn't mention anything about the typo's but that is a great one too. I completely forgot about that. Nothing drives me more crazy then trying to read a book that I have to try to figure out what it was supposed to say. I do know what I enjoy reading and I love every minute that I get to escape reality and dive into a world of danger, romance and sexy men! Thank you everyone that commented! Happy reading !!!
ReplyDeleteNice post! :-) Based on your feedback, I might start adding the publisher, release date, and format to my reviews.
